Teach Me How To Tebow

Having gone to FSU and being a Seminole’s fan automatically makes me put Tim Tebow in the “do not like” category. I’m sorry I can’t help it. I can, however, admit that he has become a star and household name basically overnight. He’s broken all sorts of records on social media and is being talked about just about everywhere, not just sports show. Now, all the chatter is not positive (To be fair, I will not insert a Bill Maher or Daniel Tosh inappropriate quote here, feel free to google it yourself) but any chatter is good right?

There is already plenty of endorsement buzz, even some Dancing with the Stars rumors surrounding Tebow. On paper, he is the perfect spokesperson. He was the underdog; he is not just an athlete but a quarterback, good looking, the perfect ingredients. But what about his very strong religious beliefs? Would having Tebow as your brand ambassador be polarizing? Of course, every brand has its own persona and some might fit perfectly with Tim’s beliefs-like the “Focus on the Family” campaign he did last year during the super bowl.

Would you want Tim Tebow as your brand ambassador? Apparently, Jockey wanted him really bad because he is the face of their new campaign even though he wasn’t willing to “drop his pants.” He is not in boxers or briefs like many before him were. Many think that the product should be shown and that this is not a smart marketing move. According to Jockey’s PR director, Mo Moorman, “Some things are better when left to the imagination.”

Bring on the opinions…

It is pretty refreshing to see an athlete that actually stands for something. Athletes and coaches are constantly glorified for their skills and there values are often ignored even though so many young people view them as role models and strive to be just like them. What makes Tebow so unique is he is playing the opposite role: on the low end of the skill department (let’s be honest, it’s the NFL) but high in the values/integrity department. And yet, he is just as popular as those other guys!

My only reservation is Tebow is obviously human and bound to mess up eventually. If he doesn’t, wonderful. If he does, the scrutiny will be tenfold as those in the “don’t like Tebow” category are itching to pounce.

Of course I have to comment. First of all, my daughter, who went to FSU, asked me this question: “If Tim Tebow has a thought, is that a Christian Ponder?”
Regardless of where Tim went to school, no one can critisize his performance as a quarterback in the college ranks and to a lesser extent in the pros. So if you don’t like him because of his religious beliefs, you should google the First Amendment of the Constitution and respect what this country stands for. If you don’t like him because he kicked your teams butt every year he was there, just look at the score over the last two years and you will feel better.
To the point of what happens if he’s found in bed with a prostitute, well Tiger is back on the tour and the ratings for golf are up again.
Nobody is perfect but this kid is pretty close, I hear that God’s house is painted Orange and Blue.

Oh, I forgot one thing…since I do respect the First Amendment, you are free to continue blogging as much as you want.

Evelyn, good point. Hopefully he doesn’t mess up and can continue to be a good role model, let’s be honest there aren’t too many of those left.

Joe, your daughter’s question is a good one and thank you for letting me continue to blog. One more thing, did you really compare Tim to Tiger? I have to admire you for believing in Tim that much, lol.
